Stevenson is American and is of Mexican American heritage. Ever since she was young she's been extremely attracted to sports. Gerina was a golfer in her first game at age 15. Gerina went to Goddard High School for her secondary education. She was the winner of her place in the New Mexico State Golf Tournament at the age of high school. She also played volleyball at the level of state. 2003, she began her studies in the University of Texas. In the final period of her career she was the winner of every event where she played. Through her college professional career, she took home her the Conference USA Individual Champion Player of the Year and Female UTEP athlete of the Year.
